Is there any purpose to holding on to gems after you have maxed your luck with a co-aligned unicorn?

I usually hold on to the valuable ones because ... I don't know, they're "valuable". However, apart from their use in calculating your final score is there any reason to have them?

Does anyone slog these things around with them as well or should I just dump them?

PS: I never use slings, so using them as ammo is not all that appealing.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Aheneve (talkcontribs) 15:49, 14 January 2014‎

You could use them for polypiling, however useful that may be. Also, remember that cross-aligned unicorns will be immediately pacified. (Even a simple rock will be enough for this effect, though.)
I tend to keep them around just because they're shiny, though. That, and they have a low weight – but of course I'll drop them if there's something more important to carry. —bcode talk | mail 15:54, 14 January 2014 (UTC)
Your Luck might go down due to various "accidents". E.g. a nymph steals your luckstone, or a lich curses it, or you kill a peaceful monster with the drawbridge. It's worth stashing a few gems (and leaving a coaligned unicorn alive) so you can recover. --Tjr (talk) 20:08, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
