I have a +6 Sceptre of Might. With the double damage, I would really like to safely get it to a +7. I can't use engraving to drop the enhancement and it resists cursed scrolls of enchant weapon. Is there any other way to decrease the enchantment? --Krique 22:23, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

Cast drain life at the object. It will resist, but you can try repeatedly until you run out of power. I'm assuming you're a caveman, which will make casting difficult, but it's only a level 2 spell. -- Qazmlpok 23:10, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
Two other options to consider, although drain life is probably the best one still:
  • Find a disenchanter, and hit it repeatedly. The Sceptre has a 10% chance to lose one enchantment each time you hit it. You want to try to avoid killing the disenchanter before it removes one enchantment; take off any gauntlets of power you might have. The castle has a good chance to contain one; failing that you could also reverse genocide them. You should only need one disenchanter if you have a wand of undead turning: disenchanters will always leave a corpse to revive. Make sure to have a junk weapon (mace, or possibly a pick-axe) ready to kill the disenchanter with, after you get the Sceptre down to +5.
  • Cancel the Sceptre. This is something of a last resort, if you can't find or wish for a spellbook of drain life. Trying to write the unknown spellbook with a magic marker has a non-trivial chance of completely exhausting it, without writing anything useful. The same marker should give you at least 4 or 5 enchant weapon scrolls, which when blessed should be enough to have a shot at getting to Sceptre up to +7. This is a trade-off as compared to trying to write a spellbook of drain life: the spellbook will give you repeated chances to enchant the Sceptre but is not guaranteed, while canceling the Sceptre is guaranteed to give you one chance, but isn't advisable to reuse. -Ion frigate 03:46, 24 January 2011 (UTC)
