In NetHack, the letter K serves the following purposes:

• k represents a kobold:
  • k kobold
  • k large kobold
  • k kobold lord
  • k kobold shaman

• K represents a Keystone Kop:
  • K Keystone Kop
  • K Kop Sergeant
  • K Kop Lieutenant
  • K Kop Kaptain

• K is also used as a direction key:
  • Press k to move north if numpad movement is off.
  • Press shift + k to move far north if numpad movement is off.
• If numpad is on, press k to kick.

Historical uses

From Hack 1.0 to NetHack 2.3e, killer bees used the k glyph, and kobolds used the K glyph. In NetHack 3.0.0, new types of kobold were introduced, and all kobolds were moved to the k glyph, while killer bees were moved to the a glyph.
