Wearing a ring of polymorph gives you polymorphitis, which has a 1% chance of polymorphing you each turn. This ring is most of the time generated cursed, due to the fact that uncontrolled polymorphitis is really a pain. You can get system shock due to the ring (unless you have control or are wearing dragon scales or dragon scale mail).

If you have polymorph control, you may choose the form into which you polymorph. If you are inflicted with lycanthropy, the ring of polymorph will occasionally trigger a change into your normal form or the animal form of the werecreature that infected you.

If you are wearing an amulet of unchanging, the ring of polymorph will have no effect (besides the usual ring hunger).

If you find a ring and test its price and BUC status, the chance of a ring of polymorph is given in the following table. You can rule out teleport control by walking on a teleportation trap and conflict by wearing it in sight of monsters.

Any price 3.45% 0.50% 0.52% 10.14% 0%

UnNetHack

In UnNetHack, if you drop this ring down a sink, the sink will be converted to another piece of furniture - an Altar, Fountain, or Throne.
