the Rouge level doesn't leave corpses so there isn't any Death Drop, right?— Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.153.178.134 (talkcontribs)

Well, there's no "death drop" of a corpse, that much is true. The monster may still drop a random object.--Ray Chason 20:39, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

This page gives object frequencies for regular dungeon, Gehennom, and the Rogue level, but no mention is made of whether these are affected by other locations, such as the Gnomish Mines, various quest levels, Fort Ludios, demon lairs, etc. It might also be worth mentioning whether or not special rooms (shops, cockatrice dens, beehives, anthills, swamps, etc.) can change these probabilities. If the death drop happens to be a tin, its contents are chosen according to the same probability distribution also used for generating monsters. In that case, dungeon level/branch do matter. As far as I know, that is the only further way object frequencies are affected. Tjr 18:22, June 9, 2010 (UTC)

Whitespace

This page seems awfully blank; I was thinking perhaps trying to make the page list it in several columns, or at least adding something for the tables to actually be embedded next to. Not sure what, nor how helpful it'd actually be, though.

PS. Shouldn't the first section, "Normal dungeon" really say Dungeons of Doom?

PPS. Could be something like a upturned version of the dungeon map on Mazes of Menace, with it rotated ninety degrees (working it's way down through branches rather than to the right). This would at least allow easily seeing where a given level is supposed to lie in the generation. And (pointless) anchor links around the page.

The Rogue Level is part of the Dungeons of Doom -- that's why you want "Normal Dungeon." Also, doesn't "Normal Dungeon" include the Mines for these purposes? --Slandor 19:05, June 29, 2010 (UTC)
You could say it's quite normal except for Mine Town but these levels have mostly Gnomes in them with occasionally other monsters. - - DemonSlayerThe3 :: The Neutral Gnomish Wizard, with my kitten Ellinis! 16:30, July 23, 2010 (UTC)

Penalty against small monsters

"There is also a penalty against small monsters, who can only leave items that weigh less than three: food rations, leashes, and figurines."

What does this mean? I can't make sense of it -- food rations, leashes, and figurines weign more than three. Slandor 19:32, June 29, 2010 (UTC)

Small monsters may leave the following types of items:
  • Items with a weight less than or equal to 3
  • Food rations
  • Leashes
  • Figurines

OK, edited to clarify that. Slandor 21:05, June 29, 2010 (UTC)
If the death drop doesn't satify these criteria, it gets deleted right away. I suspect most cases of truly "unfindable" artifacts can be explained by this. Tjr 23:28, June 29, 2010 (UTC)

golems

What about the special-cased items from golems, are they also death drops? Pacifists do get them. --Tjr 19:57, 3 August 2011 (UTC)

Drops from golems, unicorns, dragons, etc are created with the corpse. Death drops are created in xkilled, which is for when the player kills a monster (and gets experience, loses conduct, etc). The items that drop are considered part of the corpse (the entire corpse for the golems), which is why they're created even if a pet does the killing. -- Qazmlpok 02:29, 4 August 2011 (UTC)
Should they be mentioned in the article? --Tjr 03:41, 4 August 2011 (UTC)
