Rings with names

Rings that bear names as like from calling them won't let you name them again when dropped onto the sink. Can somebody confirm this and correct the article accordingly?

Sitting in Sinks

Add in somewhere:

Sitting in sink: Known results "Your rump gets wet"

Added into the entry. Thanks. —Shijun 23:49, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Dropped ring with no message...?

I dropped a cursed ring down a sink in Minetown but all I got was the message "You hear the ring bouncing down the drainpipe." Curious. I was not hallucinating, confused, stunned or blind, and a level 6 Wizard (so not a Beginner). What did I have?

I guess that you had ring of hunger. --Kernigh 03:51, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

Extra long table?

The table for the results of using a sink is scattered and takes up about three times the lines it really needs. I have no idea how that stuff works, so if it is believed best to change it then please do it.

Death From Levitation

I have a fond memory about this one - levitating on one and then when the levitation stops, you die because you fell on a sink. Classic. --Zapwire (aporkcalypse now) 00:24, November 13, 2009 (UTC)

Breaking the sink via quaffing

Not sure if this is SLASH'EM-specific or not, but every once in a while, the sink shatters, turning into a fountain when you quaff from it. You get a message, "The pipes break! Water shoots out." (not sure if that's the exact message, but whatever) Anyone confirm? AileTheAlien 07:15, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

  • Ugh. It's already in the table. Poor eyesight late at night... AileTheAlien 07:17, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

Quaffing Strategy

It seems like if you have a unicorn horn, unchanging, and free action, you could quaff from sinks with little or no risk. I guess you would also need to be strong enough to deal with a water demon. Is there a flaw in this strategy that I am missing? 184.8.50.197 02:12, 19 December 2011 (UTC)

True. But there's not much upside, either; you will occasionally get the benefits of quaffing a full healing potion, but much more often you'll get the scalding water (1d6 hp unless fire resistant) or sewer water (increase hunger). Unless you've accidentally put on levitation boots, sinks just aren't that useful. Delbow 02:19, 19 December 2011 (UTC)
Water elementals too. They are slow enough to run away from, but they do hit a lot harder than a demon. Other than that it's pretty much risk free, but you don't get a whole lot out of it. You might get a few random uncursed potions, and you might get a ring (kicking it is a better way to get the ring). Eventually the sink will break and give you a fountain. It can be used to identify a few random potions if you do it early in the game, but that's about it. Getting more than a few potions is rare, the XP isn't worth it, and uncursed potions don't give great lasting effects - even full healing will only give +4 max HP when uncursed. -- Qazmlpok 02:27, 19 December 2011 (UTC)

potion beatitude for potion effect?

When you quaff from a sink and get the random potion, is it automatically as an uncursed potion or can it be blessed/cursed? For example, might you sometimes get cursed gain level? Also, can you only get the randomized-appearance potions, or can you also sometimes drink (un)holy water? 169.252.4.21 02:06, 13 June 2014 (UTC)

Hallucination Messages?

I was hallucinating and got the message "A spiral ooze gushes up from the drain!" after kicking a sink. I assume spiral isn't the only adjective that can be used here. Should there be a section mentioning the hallucinating messages?

That's nothing to do with sinks in particular. Hallucinating randomly swaps out the names of colours for random adjectives in all messages. Ais523 (talk) 21:14, 16 February 2015 (UTC)

Polymorph has a duration

I drank from the sink and got the toxic wastes result. I transformed into a Gnome King, and I thought that was pretty awesome until I realized on the next floor that I was no longer polymorphed. --covertoperator
