The stairs down is in one of the four possible marked locations, chosen at random; the other three spots each contain a large mimic posing as a down staircase.

One of the three spaces marked X contains an icebox buried in solid rock; inside the icebox are 3d3 footrice corpses, 2d3 acid blob corpses, and one lizard corpse.

The pillars are all diggable, but each time a pillar is completely removed (all four or nine squares dug out) it will cause a structural collapse with the same effect as beating a charged drum of earthquake. You get a warning when the penultimate square of any pillar is removed ("The pillar seems dangerously weak.")
