The ring of gain constitution is a ring that appears in NetHack. The default randomized appearance associated with it is "an opal ring".[1]

Generation

The ring of gain constitution makes up ~3.57% of all randomly generated rings.

Effects

When worn, it increases your constitution by its enchantment. The enchantment can be altered by charging, and the boost to constitution exceeds racial limitations up to a maximum of 25. Wearing an enchanted ring of gain constitution will auto-identify it.

Strategy

See also: Identifying rings with a sink

The ring of gain constitution can easily be identified by wearing a non-cursed one - dropping one down a sink produces a message about its water flow being affected.

Worn rings of gain constitution can increase the player's carrying capacity (calculated from strength and constitution), and can be worn before leveling up to improve HP gains (determined by constitution). As any value above 19 is functionally identical in most cases, high-constitution characters have little need to boost the stat beyond that point.

History

The ring of gain constitution is introduced in NetHack 3.3.0.

In NetHack 3.4.3 and earlier versions, a ring of gain constitution of any enchantment could be used to drain levels and regain them for a virtually limitless amount of hit points. See drain for gain for more details.

Messages

The water flow seems greater now.
You dropped a ring of gain constitution down a sink.
The water flow seems lesser now.
As above, but the ring's enchantment was negative.
