The bearded devil is a lawful [[major demon]] that has somewhat humanoid anatomy, similar to the [[barbed devil]], though they cannot wear armor on the torso despite being [[medium]] in size. A bearded devil is [[thick-skinned]], can [[follow]] a [[hero]] to other levels if they are adjacent and has the ability to go [[Berserk (EvilHack)|berserk]] when at low HP. [[Tame]] bearded devils that are not [[minion]]s may turn [[traitor]].

A bearded devil has two weapon attacks and a [[poisonous]] sting attack that drains [[strength]]. Barbed devils possess [[cold resistance]], along with [[fire resistance]], [[poison resistance]], [[drain resistance]], and [[death resistance]] like all major demons.

Bearded devils are [[poisonous]] to consume, which primarily comes up if they are [[digest]]ed by another monster.

==Generation==
Randomly generated bearded devils are always created hostile. While barbed devils are flagged to appear only in [[Gehennom]], no [[lawful]] monsters can be created in Gehennom by normal random generation.

Bearded devils can appear in [[graveyard]]s, and are eligible for [[Demon gating|gating]] by hostile lawful major demons as well as a hero in the form of one. Hostile bearded devils can also be generated by the [[summon nasties]] monster spell if the caster is lawful or in Gehennom.

Though they are lawful monsters, tame barbed devil [[minion]]s can be given as [[sacrifice gift]]s to [[chaotic]] heroes at [[experience level]]s 12 to 16. Hostile bearded devils can also appear as minions of an [[angry]] chaotic [[god]] or [[Moloch]].

Bearded devils have a {{frac|2}} chance of [[Monster starting inventory|generating with]] a [[glaive]].
