==Strategy==
Black molds are fairly dangerous to attack in melee: despite being flagged as appearing only in Gehennom, generation mechanics for fungi mean that they can be found growing on corpses as early as the first level of the dungeon. A [[hero]]'s starting [[pet]] will need to reach [[Monster level|level]] 5 to even attack one in most of these cases, and most of them cannot safely attack the mold without being poisoned in return, with the only exception being the [[Necromancer]]'s [[ghoul]].

Fortunately, the sessile black molds are as vulnerable to all forms of [[ranged attack]]s as any other mold, and can otherwise be safely ignored unless they are blocking a [[door]] or other path that the hero wishes to explore; they are no danger by the time a hero reaches Gehennom. Despite their poisonous and acidic passives, black molds are neither acidic nor poisonous to eat, and can be a useful early source of poison resistance.
