==Description==
A cutlass inflicts slashing damage, dealing 1d10 damage against small monsters and 1d8 damage against large ones. A cutlass can be [[Poisoned weapon#dNetHack|coated in poison]] by dipping it in an appropriate [[potion]]. A hero that wields an elven scimitar while Skilled or better in scimitars gains the "long slash" [[expert trait]].

In terms of [[monster weapon preference]], monsters will favor the cutlass over the [[elven scimitar]], and will prefer a [[trident]] or better to the cutlass.
