Here is an example for my question. I have 37 uncursed scrolls of teleportation in my bag of holding. If I take all of them out, I will be burdened. So I'd like to take only 2 or 3. A way to do it is to drop them on the floor, kick them, pick the number I don't want, put them back in the bag and finally pick the rest. But it is clumsy and not recommended, e.g., for potions.

Another example: I want to rest for several moves, and I don't want to just type repeatedly. I also don't want to keep my finger on the keyboard, if only because it can be dangerous by missing monster attacks. So, I would like a command saying rest for 'n' moves, where n is specified. I think such a command used to exist, and the resting was interrupted as usual if something paculiar was happening (monster, hunger...)

Also for moving forward, etc.

Is there something like this now?

 Thank you, but I am in a rather special situation: playing with the Nethack 3.6.6 Cocoa interface by Bryce Cogswell and Dirk Zimmermann on a MacBook Air. I have an extended keyboard. For moving or resting, typing a number beforehand does not work if I use the number pad, but it works if I use figures from the non-extended part. However, this does not work to select a number of items.
-In the options, Number_pad is 'off' (0). If I put it to 'on' (1), my usual commands do not work properly and typing 'n' does not seem to help anyway.
