'''Missiles''' in NetHack come in two forms. Those that are shot from a '''missile launcher''', and those that are thrown.

The shot missiles are:
*[[arrow]]s, shot with [[bow]]s
*[[crossbow bolts]], shot with a [[crossbow]]

The thrown missiles are:
*[[dart]]s
*[[dagger]]s

One could also count all [[stone]]s as missiles. They can be both thrown and shot with a [[sling]].

In fact, anything can be used as a missile. [[Cockatrice]] [[egg]]s make popular missiles, and so do various [[potion]]s.

Missiles are good for softening targets from afar. Anything can even be shot and thrown past [[boulder]]s, which is often advantageous in [[Sokoban]].
