A '''potion of vampire blood''' is a type of [[Magical item|magical]] [[potion]] that appears in [[EvilHack]]. It always appears as a [[blood-red potion]] when [[Identification|unidentified]], an appearance it shares with the [[Potion of blood (EvilHack)|potion of blood]].

==Generation==
Potions of vampire blood are only randomly generated for a [[Vampire (starting race in EvilHack)|vampire]] [[hero]], though they can also be [[wish]]ed for or found in [[bones]] by other heroes. For vampire heroes, potions of blood make up {{frac|200}} of all potions randomly generated on the floor, in [[shop]]s or as [[death drop]]s.

[[Vampire (monster class)|vampires]] have a {{frac|2}} chance of generating with a blood-red potion that has a {{frac|4}} chance of being vampire blood.

[[Mixing]] potions of vampire blood with potions of fruit juice will turn the juice into [[diluted]] vampire blood.

==Description==
[[Quaffing]] the potion breaks [[vegetarian]] [[conduct]] and has different effects depending on its [[beatitude]] and if the hero is a [[Vampire (monster attribute)|vampire]] or not: a vampire that quaffs a non-cursed potion gains 800 nutrition and restores 200 HP for a blessed potion, or gains 200 nutrition and restore 4d4 HP for an uncursed potion, while a cursed potion's contents will have congealed and give 0 nutrition—diluted potions of vampire blood grant half the nutrition listed and restore 100 HP if blessed, or 1d4 HP if uncursed.

A hero that is not in the form of a vampire and quaffs a potion of vampire blood of any [[beatitude]] will [[abuse]] [[constitution]] and suffer a -15 penalty to [[alignment record]] and [[anger]] their [[god]] if they are [[lawful]] or a [[Monk]], or suffer a -3 penalty to alignment record if they are neutral and not a Monk—a vampire hero in non-vampire form will instead revert to their base form if they do not have [[unchanging]].

Heroes not in the form of vampires also have a {{frac|5}} chance of being [[polymorph]]ed into a vampire if they do not have unchanging, which lasts until the hero's HP is reduced to 0 (and returns them to normal if possible) and chooses the form depending on the potion's beatitude—a blessed potion has a {{frac|4}} chance of turning the hero into a [[vampire royal]] and will otherwise make them a [[vampire noble]], while an uncursed potion will turn the hero into a [[vampire sovereign]], and a cursed potion will turn them into a [[vampire bat]]. Otherwise, if such a hero is not polymorphed, they abuse constitution a second time and take damage depending on the potion's beatitude: 2d8 damage for a cursed potion, 1d8 damage for an uncursed potion, and 1d4 for a blessed potion, with the outcome divided by 4 if the potion is also diluted.

Non-player vampires can quaff vampire blood and will do so to heal themselves rather than gain nutrition: potions of vampire blood fully restore a vampire's HP if blessed or 4d4 HP if uncursed, while diluted potions of vampire blood restore HP equal to {{frac|4}} of the monster's maximum HP if blessed or 1d4 HP if uncursed. Cursed potions have no effect and will be used up in either case.

[[Dipping]] a [[unicorn horn]] into a potion of vampire blood will turn it into an uncursed [[potion of water]].

Being subjected to the [[vapors]] of a broken potion of vampire blood abuses wisdom if the hero is a vampire, and abuses constitution otherwise.
