When chatted to, a generic smith may respond with the following:

"I need a forge!"

Smith does not have access to a forge/shop. Needs to be taken close to a forge or into a shop to allow choosing services.

"Contribute some <resource>"

Smith has access to a forge/shop but does not have enough of the resource to provide services. Choosing this option will prompt a item appropriate to be smelted down into raw material to be selected. Note:

Otherwise, a smith will open the following menu:
