A '''staff of matter''' is a type of [[weapon]] that appears in [[EvilHack]] and [[Hack'EM]]. It is a [[two-handed]] [[spell staff]] that uses the [[quarterstaff]] [[skill]], and appears as an '''etched staff''' when [[Identification|unidentified]].

The staff of matter has a different [[object material]] depending on the variant: in EvilHack, it has a [[Object materials (EvilHack)|default material]] of [[adamantine]], and in Hack'EM it has a [[Object materials (Hack'EM)|default material]] of [[mithril]] as in previous versions of EvilHack.

==Generation==
Staves of matter make up {{frac|200}} (0.5%) of all weapons randomly generated on the ground, in general [[shop]]s or as [[death drop]]s. Used armor dealerships and antique weapons outlets can also stock staves of matter.

In EvilHack, a [[hero]] that is a [[Druid]], [[Healer/EvilHack|Healer]], [[Infidel]], [[Monk/EvilHack|Monk]], [[Priest/EvilHack|Priest]], or [[Wizard/EvilHack|Wizard]] may be given a staff of matter as a 'mundane' [[sacrifice gift]].

The staff of matter deals 1d6 damage to both small and large [[monster]]s. It is notably lighter in [[weight]] than the other spell staves at 30 aum. A hero wielding a staff of matter gains a flat 50% reduction in the [[spellcasting]] failure rate of [[matter spells]], which is applied after all other checks besides the check for [[metallic]] [[body armor]].
