Otherwise, it at least gives you the opportunity to call it something distinctive. In the case you find a scroll with the same incription or potion of the same color, you'll have an idea of what it does, or at least know you've come across it before.

But, if you price ID'd it as 80zm and it didn't buff your armor any (or destroyed it, if it's already highly enchanted and you're unlucky...), then you know it's Remove Curse by process of elimination.
