== Effects ==

If you read the scroll while you are not [[confused]], various types of demons can be created. The creation of [[named demon]]s is a special case.

The number and hostility of the demons depend on the [[beatitude]] of the scroll, and whether or not a [[named demon]] would be generated.

=== Named demon generation ===

If a [[named demon]] would be generated, it will always be hostile to [[lawful]] players. Otherwise, if the named demon would be tame due to the scroll being blessed, it will be made peaceful instead.

If the number of demons would be above 1 due to the scroll being cursed, only 1 named demon will be generated.

In most cases the scroll will attempt to create a demon lord, and there is a 0% chance of generating a demon prince. The exception is a confused reading of a cursed scroll.

If a named demon cannot be created, 5-14 manes will be generated instead. They will be tame if you are [[chaotic]].

=== Confused reading ===

Reading a cursed scroll of demonology while confused will always attempt to generate a named demon. There is a 40% chance of attempting to summon a demon lord and a 60% chance of attempting a demon prince. All the other caveats of generating a named demon from this scroll still apply.

Otherwise, reading the scroll while confused will create 3-12 manes. If the scroll is blessed, the manes will be peaceful.

=== Monster use ===

Monsters can read this scroll. If the scroll is cursed or the monster is confused, it will create 1-12 demons, otherwise it will create 1-4 demons.

If the monster is confused, the scroll will always create manes. If the monster is in a [[pool]] or [[moat]], the scroll will always create a [[water demon]]. Otherwise, demons are created with the following probabilities:
