For one thing, the text is apparently in the wrong place (the paragraph you added it to talks about maximum experience level). For another thing, the game tells you how much you need to donate in order to get protection – this can be more than 500×XL if you have a lot of visible gold (but in that case, you get more protection than you would if you had less gold).
