The Adamach, ", is a unique monster that appears in dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack. It is a Rilmani neutral outsider that is strong, humanoid, thick-skinned and inediate like other Rilmani—it is also amphibious, unbreathing, can see invisible, and is capable of flight. The Adamach is covetous and capable of warping, and desires the Amulet of Yendor, the invocation items, and the quest artifact of the hero's role.

The Adamach has a strong armor-shredding claw attack, a disintegration touch attack and a passive disenchanting attack, and possesses every form of elemental resistance (not including magic resistance).

The Adamach is poisonous to consume, which primarily comes up if they are digested by another monster or subjected to Ahazu.

Generation

The Adamach is not randomly generated, and is not a valid form for polymorph.

The Adamach only appears as a historic statue within the Sum of All.

The Adamach does not leave a corpse upon death.

Origin

The Adamach is a Rilmani that is original to dNetHack and its variants - the name is a combination of the Rilmani naming scheme and a dual pun on Adam, the biblical first man, and adamantine, a nigh-inpenetrable metallic element common in fantasy stories. Its description as "the listener" in its encyclopedia entry is a reference to the Amharic word "adamaCH", meaning "listener"; this is a coincidental occurrence that was incorporated into Adamach's name after the fact.

Adamach is the legendary first Rilmani, who supposedly defeated and sealed away either Cthulhu in particular, or perhaps the Great Old Ones in general. Just as the Rilmani are based on metal salts, Adamach is a "salt" of reality and unreality, which is why it has armor-shredding and disintegration attacks.

Encyclopedia entry

The listener.
The salt of creation.
The banisher of Their harbinger.
The first of the Rilmani.
