==Generation==
[[Elf (starting race)|Elven]] and [[Hobbit (starting race)|hobbit]] characters begin the game with knowledge of elven chain mail, though it does not have an unidentified appearance. Elven [[Knight]]s begin the game with elven chain mail in place of the role's standard [[plate mail]].

In addition to random generation, armor [[shop]]s and general stores can stock elven chain mail.

Elven [[mercenaries]] with a target [[AC]] of 2 or lower have a {{frac|8|15}} chance of [[Monster starting inventory|being generated]] with elven chain mail. Other live [[Elf (monster attribute)|elves]] that are not generated in [[Goblin Town]] have a {{frac|2}} chance of being generated with elven chain mail, with the exception of [[elven wizard]]s - elven chain mail generated this way will be made of [[mithril]]. [[Hobbit]]s and [[hobbit pickpocket]]s have a {{frac|10}} chance of being generated with mithril elven chain mail.

Elven chain mail can be created at a [[Forge (dungeon feature)|forge]] by combining [[chain mail]] and an [[elven shield]].

In Hack'EM only, [[upgrading]] [[dwarvish chain mail]] will produce elven chain mail (and vice versa).

==Description==
When worn, elven chain mail provides 5 base AC and [[MC]]2 before material adjustments. Elves wearing elven chain mail gain a +1 bonus to AC.

Elven chain mail can be enchanted safely from +5 like all [[elven armor]].
