Forum:Iron chains shouldn't be "useless"

hear me out. Iron chains should be treated more like a weapon than a piece of useless junk. Let them use the whip skill, and be a step up from the bullwhip / rubber hose in damage. If a chain whip is an upgrade for Simon Belmont over a leather whip, then why shouldn't an adventurer be able to whip some monsters with a length of chain? If a bullwhip does 1/1d2 damage and a rubber hose does 1d4/1d3, a chain should do more like 1d8/1d6. If playing road rash taught me anything, it's that getting walloped by someone hitting you with a chain does a lot of damage. it might actually give an archaeologist a reason to train their whip skill. (i mean probably not but it's at least a consideration).

(not that nethack is likely to get any new artifacts, but it would be funny to be able to #name an iron chain as "Vampire Killer" to turn it into an artifact like sting/orcrist. give it +1d6 to hit and double damage against bats and vampires.)
