Forum:Treasure!
Do you think the game would be more interesting with the addition of treasure? Items that have no function other than being valuable to either sell or ascend with? Could have things like Gold Bars (slightly lighter than it's value in zorkmids, since it's comparatively compact), jeweled goblets, bolts of silk (valuable, but flammable!) , Pieces of art (highly valuable, but heavy! Could be "read" to look at the painting and get a randomized funny description). Unlike gems, treasure items could be sold un-identified, but are more valuable if identified first (treating identification as appraisal).
Rogues would auto-identify treasure items, monsters with stealing attacks would prioritize swiping treasure over other stuff, maybe archaeologists would have a CHANCE to auto-identify a treasure, or certain treasure items which could be "historically significant" could be identified by them. (so like, from the above examples, artworks, jeweled goblets, that's stuff an archaeologist would "know" about, but gold bars, less so.)
Could have vaults have a random chance, or even be guaranteed to spawn with a treasure item in with the gold, just to add variety, and give a little more incentive to pull off a heist. Maybe throw a few guaranteed (But random) treasures to fort ludios and the castle as well, i'm sure other places would have the right flavor to have treasures be set dressing as well.
