An anthole is a special room filled with food items and either soldier ants, giant ants, or fire ants. The ants will be sleeping if nothing has woken them.

Generation
There is a 1/8 chance of an anthole being generated in ordinary rooms-and-corridors levels of at least dungeon level 13, which do not have a shop, throne room, leprechaun hall, zoo, temple, beehive or graveyard.[1][2]
Antholes will not be generated if ants are genocided or extinct.

Strategy
By the time you encounter an anthole, ants will probably be easy to deal with.
