Forum:Can pets (grey D) gain intrinsics from eating corpses?

The page on pets does not say if your pet can gain intrinsics from corpses. I'm kind of thinking probably not but it would be nice if they could. My grey D needs some extra protection if he is to survive the areas I charge into. Also from the pages on pets and D's I am gathering that the dragon will not wear rings/amulets and the only buff I can really give him is intrinsic speed. Can anyone think of any other pet buffs?69.169.153.72 22:16, April 19, 2010 (UTC)

They indeed cannot gain intrinsics from eating corpses. The closest is gaining levels from wraith corpses; they still do that, but are limited to base level + 15 as a maximum level. All you can do is make him fast and heal him as he gets hurt. -- Qazmlpok 22:20, April 19, 2010 (UTC)
You can also turn a pet invisible with a wand. You will, of course, want to be able to see invisible so you don't accidentally kill it. --Khearn 23:57, 16 November 2010 (UTC)
Invisibility is meaningless for pets. It has no effect, with the minor exception of steeds. Perhaps the only use for a wand of make invisible is to make floating eyes invisible. Then they won't freeze pet cats/dogs. Tjr 04:21, 17 November 2010 (UTC)

You can make them fast with a speed monster wand and I believe it is permanent. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ndwolfwood (talkcontribs)

Yes. Usually, that's the only useful intrinsic you can give pets. Some types of armor conveys their extrinsic, and artifacts their when-carried and when-wielded resistances onto monsters. That can be useful in some cases. --Tjr
