Forum:Combining multiple versions

Hi guys. SOooo... I only play Vanilla NetHack (for now), but I play in a variety of ways depending on my mood. I have four interfaces:
nethack --- usually
nethackw --- (the bundled one) for when I want the little icons
Vulture --- just for fun sometimes
PuTTY --- to play on NAO

The problem I have is... they all seem to keep their save files and bones files in their own separate locations.
My question is... Do any of you know how to consolidate all the information together? And if you do, can you instruct me?
My Goal: Ideally, I could pop open Vulture and halfway down the dungeon run into a bones file from a game I played in ASCII. THEN I could save that game, and later open it up in nethackw if I felt like it. Basically have all the same source files but just change interfaces whenever I want. Is that even possible?

Obviously, the PuTTY games would have to remain separate, and that's fine with me.
I use Windows 7.

If the various binaries are save- and bones-compatible, you could instruct them to use the same playground, I think. This has to be done at compile time, IIRC; however, you could symlink the directories or something like that in that case. (I don't know how much of that applies to Windows systems.) —bcode talk | mail 00:11, 2 December 2012 (UTC)
