Forum:ElberethElberethElb or ELBerethELBerethELB?

In the Water demon and Escape item articles, the "ElberethElberethElb" entries were both changed to "ELBerethELBerethELB" back in August 2011. Is there a beneficial reason for changing the capitalization from "Elb" to "ELB"?— Preceding unsigned comment added by 31.172.30.3 (talkcontribs)

Not as far as I can tell; in fact, those should probably be changed to just "Elbereth". (I'll look into that now.)

It's because of the (tiny) chance that the L or B will erode into an l or b, and continue working. (The wisdom boost from a correctly capitalized Elbereth will be more useful for some characters, though.) Ais523 (talk) 20:50, 13 February 2013 (UTC)
Wisdom is only exercised if the resulting message is exactly "Elbereth", so "ElberethElberethElb" won't exercise Wisdom anyway. -- Qazmlpok (talk) 21:08, 13 February 2013 (UTC)
That makes sense; it's not exactly wise to engrave "ElberethElberethElb" while being attacked. (Engraving "ElberethE", "lberethEl", "berethElb" might be wiser, though that's more typing work [and more difficult to automate] for only one more Elbereth every 8 engravings.)
On a more serious note, I think it's best to refer to just "Elbereth" as that's what the word is normally referred to. The main Elbereth page can then explain the various ways of engraving it. —bcode talk | mail 21:23, 13 February 2013 (UTC)
