Forum:How do you see an items usages/how do you select an item in Inventory?

I used to play in 3.4.3 NAO, but have only recently gotten back into it, specifically 3.6.0 NAO I remember there was an option of being able to select an item in ones inventory, and then chose what I wanted to to with it. Ex: Open Inventory, press c for shield, and then I am brought to a menu where I can drop/examine/wield/etc the shield with one of the keys. Is this option still available and how is it turned on?

IMO this is a lazy feature. There is no such feature in nethack, nor should there be. I can't remember where it was now, but I remember somewhere someone made an article saying that "user-friendly" interfaces were bad. The example the article used was word processors. Let's say that you have a "user-friendly" word-processor, and you want to italicize a word. You would then go through several aptly-named menus, leading you intuitively to a button that said "italicize." You would then click this button, type your word, and then navigate again through the menus, click the button, and then go on typing normally. But that's really slow. Alternatively, you can just use the shortcut ^i.
I think that this is pretty much the same thing. It may take you a little bit longer to learn, but in the end, learning the shortcuts (P, W, T, R, a, r, etc.) is a lot faster. Elronnd(talk) 03:23, 14 September 2016 (UTC)

Thanks! I just realized I confused dwarf fortress controls with net-hacks controls :p Kars (talk) 04:40, 14 September 2016 (UTC)
