Forum:Is there any way to protect yourself from the effects of a wand of slow monster?

If a monster zaps a wand of slow monster and you're hit, is there any way to protect or nullify the effects? Thank you.

I somehow doubt they zap them at all, but shades do slow a player without MC3. If you're really afraid, you can carry a wand of speed monster or some extrinsic source of speed. --Tjr 09:03, 20 June 2011 (UTC)
Tinned quantum mechanic, a wand of speed monster, a pair of boots of speed (unless you're already wearing those). A potion of speed might be good to get out of a tight spot if you slow down. As Tjr said, though, I think you're more likely than another monster to zap yourself with this kind of wand. --FJH 01:12, 25 June 2011 (UTC)
I don't think monsters use this wand in vanilla, but I wouldn't put it past them in SLASH'EM.--Ray Chason 01:53, 2 July 2011 (UTC)
Haven't ever seen it in SLASH'EM. I think the wand of cancellation is the only addition (not counting the entirely new wands). -- Qazmlpok 02:58, 2 July 2011 (UTC)
As a quick clarification to the OP: zapping yourself with slow monster or being hit by a shade doesn't make you slow - it simply removes intrinsic speed, if you have it. The means Tjr gave to counteract shades are ways to restore intrinsic speed (quantum mechanic, wand of speed monster) or to gain the very fast extrinsic (potion, boots).
And I have never seen a monster zap one of these either, in SLASH'EM or vanilla nethack. -Ion frigate 06:41, 2 July 2011 (UTC)
