Forum:Something very weird happened on my Archeologist Quest

Specifically, this happened with the Quest Nemesis - The Minion of Whatsitsname. Well, it's a major demon, and my arc was #twoweaponing a +7 Grayswandir and a +6 Silver Sabre, so when I went against him in melee I slashed him once and poof, he teleported out of there, without even politely introducing himself to me or taking the Orb of Detection with him, so I promptly walked to that square and picked up the orb. Then the weird thing happened - after the usual text of "you got the quest artifact which looks shiny and powerful and you know you must protect it blah blah blah", a message appeared saying that "the body of the Minion of Whatsisname turned to dust". I put on a towel and sure enough, he ain't at the upstairs or anywhere to be found, and when I went back to the upstairs, the Bell of Opening is right there. So what happened here? Is the Quest nemesis supposed to autodie if you manage to send him packing to the stairs before he gets a chance to pick up the artifact? Or is it something specific to the Minion of Whatsitsname? If this was on NAO, could you provide a link to the ttyrec, please? --Tjr 10:51, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
Did you have a powerful pet near the upstairs that could have finished him off? Hitting him with those two weapons would certainly bring him very close to death in a single turn, so a high level pet could finish him off. Looking at the map of the level, you can't see the upstairs so conflict isn't an option. Unless there was a randomly generated rolling boulder trap near the upstairs a trap couldn't have finished him off either. But no, the quest nemesis does not autodie upon picking up the quest artifact. -- Qazmlpok 12:38, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
I had a pet Master Mind Flayer and a pet Gray Dragon on the floor, so it's possible. Are you supposed to see its death message (body turn to dust) even if a pet killed him, though? Also, this is on my own machine. RegalStar 14:12, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
Yep. A pet archon killed the minion for me at the up staircase and it gave the "cloud of fumes" message. I couldn't see or detect either monster. A gray dragon could easily have been strong enough to attack the minion (difference of 1 base level), and a master mind flayer as well, if the minion was weak enough. -- Qazmlpok 14:52, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
