Forum:Why does copper corrode?

Since copper(Cu) has lower reactivity than hydrogen(H), copper should not corrode by acid.

Does this mean acid in NetHack is oxidizing acid?

Bronze and brass will still corrode by acid, because they also contain tin(Sn) and zinc(Zn), respectively, which have higher reactivity than hydrogen. --NDos (talk) 22:46, 12 August 2016 (UTC)

Because real copper just does corrode, no matter what the science seems to be saying. There's more complicated principles at work, I'm sure. JMarieStanton (talk) 12:06, 15 August 2016 (UTC)
It's probably because the copper item that's most likely to be corroded is the bronze plate mail which, as the name implies, is made of bronze. Just my thoughts, really. --Kahran042 (talk) 01:25, 13 August 2016 (UTC)
But by that logic, a copper ring should not corrode, as it is a pure copper. --NDos (talk) 01:42, 13 August 2016 (UTC)
3.6.1 will restrict erosion to weapons, armor, some tools and the ball-and-chain, so the point will be moot come next version. --Darth l33t (talk) 14:31, 13 August 2016 (UTC)
Does this mean it's no longer possible to kill Vlad with a rusty tin opener!? Awwww... :-( :-( --Luna (talk) 02:17, 4 January 2018 (UTC)
