How fast does anger time out by itself?

Tjr 16:24, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure there is no timeout for anger - if your god is angry, he/she/it will stay angry until you do something to reduce anger. djao 06:20, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
So if you're an atheist and displaced your pet into a trap, or you are doing the protection racket, you will never get rid of the anger? Tjr 00:14, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
If you're an atheist, then you probably don't care about anger, since anger mainly affects things like prayer and turn undead, which atheists can't do anyway. The protection racket makes no difference -- you can buy protection regardless of anger status, and if for some reason you need to reduce anger, you can still sacrifice monsters at an altar to reduce anger without directly affecting your ability to buy protection (just use a pet to kill monsters and so on). djao 19:48, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
I would want to pray for food during the protection racked, but my alignment went negative (angered a peaceful dog), then anger came in due to a displeased god after prayer. That's why I would like to make anger go away immediately without racking up experience. Tjr 21:04, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
Generally, if you anger your god early in the game, it will be a long time before you can get rid of the anger. This is true whether or not you're doing the protection racket, although the protection racket certainly doesn't make things easier. The problem is that you need to kill and sacrifice a relatively powerful monster in order to reduce anger, especially if you're chaotic. Such monsters are not automatically generated unless your DL+XL is high enough. Aside from gaining experience, the only solution is to reverse genocide the weakest monster that can still reduce anger, and have a pet strong enough to kill it. I find black puddings to be a good choice since they split against iron weapons, producing more corpses. djao 17:45, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

How Should I Mollify my Chaotic God at Low levels

Smiting Protection

When does one lose intrinsic protection? Is it whenever the god is angered at all? The article says "You will lose any intrinsic protection you may have if any god smites you." but is this including the first "You feel that <god> is displeased.", "No further effect." smite? Yes. It's in gods_upset() and angrygods() in pray.c -Tjr 22:11, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Rule of thumb

I added the rule of thumb for mollifying your god from the sacrifice page, because every I search for it I get frustrated that I can't find it on the anger page. --Mobileuser (talk) 10:34, 3 February 2021 (UTC)
