Other metallic items

How does rust affect steel rings, steel wands and iron balls? At least rings and wands can be wished for as rustproof. It would make sense that a rusty +1 ring of increase accuracy would work as a +0 ring of increase accuracy, for example. --ZeroOne 17:26, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

Amulets?

can amulets be made erodeproof any way other then wishing for them that way?

As far as I know, rust has no effect on rings, wands, or iron balls. I'm not sure I agree with you about the rusty +1 ring of accuracy; a rusty +1 helm of brilliance still adds one to your int and wis, it just offers less protection due to being rusty. The magic is still wholly intact, even if what it inhabits isn't. --Eidolos 17:31, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

Fooproof

Can someone explain what a fooproof item is? At the moment its just a redirect to here.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Gavin77 (talkcontribs)

"Fooproof" is a catchall term for rustproof, fireproof, etc.; it covers all of them. For the origin and meaning of "foo", see the Jargon File.--Ray Chason 15:42, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Blessed items

Someone added this: "In addition to erode-proofing, blessed items will resist erosion two thirds of the time." Actually it's based on luck, from rnd.c#rnl. Could somebody make a table for that? It'd probably be better than trying to calculate it manually. For now, I'll just add a reference to that article. -Ion frigate 07:40, June 23, 2010 (UTC)

reversing (lessening/eliminating)

Does anythithing reverse erosion, if not should such be in the article? Is it, and I missed it? If so, should there be a section devoted to such?Slarty 21:28, October 29, 2010 (UTC)

Breaking with #force

I think that whenever corroded (and maybe rusty too) weapons or tools are used for #force-ing chests and large boxes, they have a larger chance of breaking. Is there any way to confirm it ?

Turns out they do. Look at lock.c#line148; the chance it will break per turn spent picking the lock is 1-((992 - 10*max erosion level)/(1000-enchantment)); so erosion does considerably increase the chance of breakage. Still won't get rid of a cursed weapon, though - that one is explicitly checked. -Ion frigate 11:08, 12 June 2011 (UTC)
This is covered in the Force page. -108.168.56.177 22:31, 11 January 2015 (UTC)

Uses

Is there any possible reason to WANT something eroded, other than for roleplaying that you like a beat-up appearance? 169.252.4.21 04:35, 23 May 2014 (UTC)

Yes, for pudding farming you may want to use a -3 dagger as it will only deal 1 damage always. --24.208.68.158 22:10, 9 September 2015 (UTC) Seiyria

instadeath

does being rusted/rotted while polymorphed into a golem count as instadeath? --195.2.244.193 12:44, 6 November 2015 (UTC)

It's coded as one, so I say it counts. Ais523 (talk) 01:31, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
