Gray stones can be distinguished by price identification: the base price of a luckstone or healthstone is 60 zorkmids, a touchstone is 45 zorkmids, and a flint stone or loadstone is 1 zorkmid. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.157.41.4 (talkcontribs)

In Slash 'Em, after attempting to "apply" an unidentified grey stone, I received a message suggesting that I needed a source of water to use in conjunction with the stone. This may be a simple way to identify a "whetstone" (assuming that the stone was indeed a whetstone). 121.216.46.216 12:34, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

I would have to agree. --Kahran042 14:16, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
My previous stone was a whetstone; however, I just tried the same thing with an unidentified luckstone, and received the same message.58.168.88.159 23:51, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

Can you type-name gray stones? For example, to eliminate having to distinguish luckstones and flint stones by type-naming the first flint stone you find? Rezecib 08:04, January 17, 2010 (UTC)

Yes, you can, and doing so is very useful. There's nothing special about the stones preventing you from doing that. This also works with the duncecap/cornuthalum, which have the exact same unidentified appearance. -- Qazmlpok 14:57, January 17, 2010 (UTC)
