Taken from the todo: an someone knowledgable please check the facts? What are the drawbacks to engraving, as you surely don't get infinite one-turn, permanent Elbereth? -- Tjy 05:16, 28 August 2009 Tjr

  • I can't test the infinite part (not having SLASH'EM installed) but surely the same rules for individual letters failing during engraving also applies? I find your lack of faith... disturbing. The lack of charges is a worry. -- Kalon 22:50, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
  • I'm sorry, I didn't mean to step on your or the original contributor's toes. I've reworded the todo to be more polite.
In the great majority of cases, contributors are right (or if not, usually contribute a newbie's pitfall), but I have also seen myths being spread.
As for the facts, engraving with a wand or an edged weapon never fails in vanilla unless you are impaired, and I've never heard of SLASHEM changing this. That's why such a potentially game-unbalancing thing as unlimited, permanent, one-turn Elbereth raised a red flag. -Tjr 23:50, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
All lightsabers eventually run out of charge and need to be recharged with a scroll of charging; that's why you don't have infinite, permanent one-turn Elbereth, as either you keep it constantly on and it runs out of charge, or you need to take a turn to activate it. They're also quite rare and not really worth wishing for, as no class can gain skill in them, and their high base damage can easily be achieved in other ways. I can certainly see that using them for twoweaponing would be quite beneficial, as it is of course the skill in the main weapon that matters. Again though, there are other, more versatile ways of achieving that (Bat From Hell comes to mind...) 71.163.125.99 04:21, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
