:Usenet, the protocol, doesn't keep archives permanently; it relies on separate archiving sites. The largest such site was bought out by Google a while back, which is why most people rely on Google Groups for Usenet message archiving. There's also a separate, RGRN-specific archive at https://bilious.alt.org/rgrn/, which you could link to instead. [[User:Ais523|Ais523]] ([[User talk:Ais523|talk]]) 18:17, 9 December 2017 (UTC)

Is there a way to convert a google groups URL to an nntp link or a news link?

example url: http://groups.google.com/group/rec.games.roguelike.nethack/msg/a926d4e2ab3946b9

I tried simply changing everything that precedes "rec" to "news://" or "nntp://", no luck. --Testbutt (talk) 13:37, 6 December 2017 (UTC)

Usenet, the protocol, doesn't keep archives permanently; it relies on separate archiving sites. The largest such site was bought out by Google a while back, which is why most people rely on Google Groups for Usenet message archiving. There's also a separate, RGRN-specific archive at https://bilious.alt.org/rgrn/, which you could link to instead. Ais523 (talk) 18:17, 9 December 2017 (UTC)
