The Lyre of Orpheus is the Troubador/Bard quest artifact in dNetHack and SlashTHEM. It is the prize for completing the role's quest, and is neutral for wishing purposes. Its base item type is a magic harp made of gold in dNetHack, and a wooden harp in SlashTHEM.
Description
The effects of The Lyre of Orpheus vary somewhat between variants.
dNetHack
While carried, The Lyre of Orpheus grants magic resistance; it additionally allows all pets on the same level as you to automatically follow you to other levels, regardless of their location.
Applying The Lyre of Orpheus while it has charges works as with a normal magic harp, taming monsters in a certain range around you, and it can be used to play any song for musicalize spells. When invoked, The Lyre of Orpheus acts as an uncursed scroll of taming, taming monsters in a selected direction. Applying or invoking The Lyre also gives a random rumor dependent on its beatitude: the rumor will be true if The Lyre is blessed, false if cursed, and can be either if uncursed.
SlashTHEM
In SlashTHEM, The Lyre of Orpheus still grants magic resistance while carried, though it has no other effects. Applying The Lyre of Orpheus allows you to play music as with a normal wooden harp, and can be used to play any song for musicalize spells. When invoked, The Lyre of Orpheus acts as an uncursed scroll of taming, which tames monsters more akin to the scroll from vanilla NetHack.
