The Staff of the Archmagi is an artifact weapon that appears in EvilHack. It is neutral, and its base item is an ashwood staff.

Generation

The Staff of the Archmagi can only be created by combining Magicbane and Secespita at a forge - it cannot be wished for, and will revert to its base item if left in a bones file.

Description

The Staff of the Archmagi has +1d8 to-hit and deals +1d8 damage against monsters that fail a check versus magic saving throw and player characters that lack magic resistance - it has the same additional effects as Magicbane, with the ability to stun, probe or confuse hit monsters (but not cancellation). Due to lacking cancellation magic, The Staff of the Archmagi can be safely stored in a bag of holding.

While carried, The Staff of the Archmagi confers half spell damage. While wielded, it confers magic resistance, blocks 1920 of curse items and other cursing effects as with Magicbane, acts as a light source (or darkness source for drow characters), and reduces spellcasting failure rates by 12 for all spell schools. Invoking The Staff of the Archmagi grants temporary phasing for 51-150 more turns, with the duration of phasing added to the invoke timeout.

Encyclopedia entry

"The staff in the hand of a wizard may be more than a prop
for age," said Hama. He looked hard at the ash-staff on
which Gandalf leaned.
