The arch-lich, L, is a monster in NetHack. It is the most powerful form of lich and therefore, next to the Wizard of Yendor, one of the most powerful spell-casting monsters in the game and, indeed, the randomly generated monster with the highest difficulty. It has the capability to cast touch of death in addition to the repertoire of the master lich, bringing instadeath to the unprepared. As such it is a frequent target of genocide.
