The angelic being is a monster class that appears in NetHack, and is represented by the uppercase A glyph (A). Angelic beings are designated internally by the macro S_ANGEL.[1]

The monster class contains the following monsters:[2]

Common traits

All angelic beings are lawful, with the exception of Angels that serve non-lawful deities. Angelic beings are inediate monsters that are considered nasty, have infravision, can be seen with infravision, and can follow you to other levels if they are adjacent. They are all strong monsters that can fly with the exception of the Aleax, and can all see invisible except for the couatl.

Angelic beings ignore the effects of Elbereth as well as occupied sanctuary.

Except for the ki-rin, angelic beings possess poison resistance.

Generation

Angelic beings are likely to generate as peaceful towards lawful characters, with the exception of Angels: Angels that serve non-lawful gods or are "renegade" servants of a lawful god will always be hostile, while Angels that serve lawful gods or are "renegade" servants of other gods are likely to be peaceful. Angelic beings created via the summon nasties monster spell will always be hostile. Angelic beings will never be generated randomly in Gehennom.

Humanoid angelic beings are generated with an uncursed erodeproof +0 large shield 34 of the time, and an uncursed +0 shield of reflection otherwise, and their weapon will be a blessed erodeproof long sword of an enchantment from +0 to +3, with a 15 chance of the sword being made into either Demonbane or Sunsword if neither artifact has been generated.[3] A humanoid angelic being that is a lord to their kind, i.e. an Archon, will always generate with a shield of reflection, and their long sword will always be made into an artifact if possible.

Angelic beings do not leave a corpse upon death.

History

Angelic beings are all introduced in NetHack 3.1.0.
