The barbed devil, &, is a demon in NetHack. It is slightly stronger than the Horned devil, but weaker than the Water demon. As such they do rather unimpressive damage. By the time a player encounters one, they should be properly equipped to deal with them. Usually one will find them in Gehennom unless summoned by some other means.
