A chest is a container item found scattered in the dungeon. Chests often hold other items, but some are generated empty.
A few chests are unlocked, but many are generated locked. To unlock a chest, you can:
- Use a key, credit card or lockpick on it.
- Zap a wand of opening at it.
- Kick it. Because this often destroys some of the items (e.g. potions) inside, it's not the best method.
- #Force the lock with a weapon, either prying or smashing the lock. This method--depending on the weapon being used--eigher destroys the lock (prying), breaks your weapon (prying) or destroys the whole box/chest (smashing) including it's contents. Smashing the box therefore should generally seen as a last resort method.
When found in shops, chests are a common disguise of mimics; however, you will occasionally find a legitimate chest.
Chests are popular as a storing place for stashes.
