A dark elven hand crossbow is a type of weapon that appears in EvilHack. It is a one-handed launcher that is designed for use with dark elven crossbow bolts and uses the crossbow skill. It is made of adamantine, and appears as an etched crossbow when unidentified.
Generation
Drow characters start the game with knowledge of the dark elven crossbow. Drow Rogues start the game with a dark elven hand crossbow and a stack of dark elven crossbow bolts.
Drow soldiers and watchmen have a 1⁄3 chance of generating with a dark elven hand crossbow and dark elven crossbow bolts, while drow sergeants generated at the Castle on level creation are always given a dark elven hand crossbow and dark elven crossbow bolts.
Driders have a 1⁄3 chance of generating with a dark elven hand crossbow and dark elven crossbow bolts, and other non-undead drow have a 1⁄4 chance of generating with a dark elven hand crossbow and dark elven crossbow bolts, with the exception of drow mages and drow clerics.
