This weapon is well worth keeping for any SLASH'EM character, priest or otherwise, who is not restricted in maces.  Its range is indeed somewhat limited, but most of the dangerous new spellcasters in SLASH'EM are undead, as are some old friends from vanilla.  Its flat damage bonus means that one need not waste scrolls of enchant weapon on it; it will wipe undead out just fine at +0.  It may however be a good idea to raise maces to skilled to ensure that Disrupter will hit fairly consistently.

Disrupter is an artifact weapon that appears in SLASH'EM, SlashTHEM and Hack'EM. It is neutral for wishing purposes. Its base item is a mace in SLASH'EM and SlashTHEM, and is a heavy mace in Hack'EM.

Generation

In SLASH'EM and SlashTHEM, Disrupter is the first sacrifice gift for Priests. Any mace created at level generation has a base 120 chance of being made into Disrupter.

In Hack'EM, Disrupter is the second sacrifice gift for Priests.

Description

Disrupter has +5 to-hit and deals +30 damage versus undead. Against undead, this damage bonus exceeds any other weapon, even the famed Bat from Hell.

Strategy

Disrupter is in a similar niche to that of Sunsword: the damage bonus covers a somewhat limited range of monsters that still encapsulates several monster classes and includes many high-level threats. Most liches vampires, and the various undead spellcasters such as the ghoul mage, vampire mage and ghoul queen can bring ruin to unprepared players, providing plentiful uses cases for any character not restricted in the mace skill.

Though Disrupter does not offer additional effects compared to the light-emitting Sunsword, the flat damage is more than enough to secure kills against hostile undead; enchant weapon scrolls can further improve its hit rate and ensure damage against monsters with enchantment resistance.
