In NetHack, a monster that does not have eyes is considered eyeless. The following monsters are eyeless:
Description
Eyeless monsters are generally immune to properties or effects that rely on eyesight - this includes gaze attacks and many sources of blindness. A player polymorphed into an eyeless monster is considered, who are simply made permanently blind.
Specifically, an eyeless monster is unaffected by:
- A thrown potion of blindness.[1]
- The exploding attacks of a yellow light or black light's hallucination attack.[2][3][4]
- A floating eye's paralysis attack.[5][6]
- Blinding from venom.[7]
- Any blinding attack, such as that of a raven.[8]
- Any gaze attack, such as that of an Archon.[9]
- The blinding effect of a poison cloud.[10]
Eyeless monsters cannot block a player's kick attacks or read scrolls, but do not ignore Elbereth as an extrinsically blinded monster would.[11][12][13]
