In NetHack, a monster that does not have eyes is considered eyeless. The following monsters are eyeless:

Description

Eyeless monsters are generally immune to properties or effects that rely on eyesight - this includes gaze attacks and many sources of blindness. A player polymorphed into an eyeless monster is considered, who are simply made permanently blind.

Specifically, an eyeless monster is unaffected by:

Eyeless monsters cannot block a player's kick attacks or read scrolls, but do not ignore Elbereth as an extrinsically blinded monster would.[11][12][13]
