In NetHack, a hat may refer to any of the following helms that appear in the game:[1]
- cornuthaum
- dunce cap
- elven leather helm, known simply as a hat when unidentified in some variants
- fedora
Hats are generally non-rigid helms: they do not protect against falling objects, but can be worn while polyselfed into a form with a horned head, and wearing one lowers the amount of damage taken if you hit the ceiling from quaffing a cursed potion of levitation.
