The helm of brilliance is the most common helm in the ascension kit. Each point of positive enchantment on the helm increases the wearer's intelligence and wisdom by one. This boost, among other things, makes spellcasting more effective.
Even though the helm of brilliance is metal, it does not hinder spellcasting.[1]
It will not auto-identify unless it has an enchantment. One simple way to determine if your +0 helm is a helm of brilliance is to examine your spell failure rates; the helm of brilliance is the only metal helm which will not make them worse.
Enchanting your helm of brilliance to +5 is more important than it is with other armor. This is because for a human with maximum natural Int and Wis, a +5 helm will increase your power regeneration to d4, whereas a +4 helm will not.
The only artifact helm of brilliance is The Mitre of Holiness, the Priest quest artifact.
