Kroo the Kobold King is a unique monster added in SLASH'EM.

Generation

Kroo appears in his own special kobold level. One variant is an ordinary rooms-and-corridors level, while the other is an entire predefined level.

In both variants, he will generate on top of two weapons, two pieces of armor, two potions, and a wand, all random. He is also generated with the usual inventory for a kobold[1], namely:

Note that he is likely to pick up and use one of the weapons he generates on top of in preference to his short sword or dagger.

Description

Kroo has a higher base level than any other kobold, but he is otherwise fairly unremarkable: his weapon attack in fact does less damage than a kobold warrior's attack, and he has the same speed and AC (9 and 10, respectively) as the all the new kobolds in SLASH'EM. Strangely, in addition to the usual poison resistance that all kobolds have, he also possesses petrification resistance.

Strategy

Kroo's guaranteed wand can lead to some nasty surprises, and he has enough HP that he will be able to fire it a few times if it is an attack wand, so players will want to be cautious around him, but overall he is not terribly dangerous. He does spawn alongside a very large number of kobolds, though: while not individually dangerous, they can "nibble down" an unprepared player faster than one might expect. Be sure to fight him and his friends in a corridor.
