The lurker above, t, is a monster in NetHack. It hangs from the ceiling, hidden from unsuspecting adventurers' eyes, before they happen to step under it, whereupon they swoop down and engulf and eat the poor victim alive. They are nevertheless susceptible to detection by telepathy or warning and not particularly fearsome when engaged by these means, especially when their slowness is taken into account. However, it can digest any pet in one turn just like a purple worm could, so be careful not to lose a good pet this way.
